The Bruins reportedly bolstered their blue line once again on Wednesday, acquiring defenseman Will Borgen from the Rangers.
According to Mollie Walker of the New York Post, the Bruins are giving up a 2027 second-round pick and a 2028 conditional third-round pick for Borgen. That 2028 pick becomes Boston’s second-round selection if Boston makes the Eastern Conference Final in either 2026-27 or 2027-28 and Borgen plays in 50 percent of Boston’s playoff games.
The 29-year-old skater is expected to slot into the top-four, right-shot role that has largely been vacant since Brandon Carlo was traded to Toronto in March 2025.
Borgen — who is signed for the next four years at a $4.1 million cap hit — is a bigger body at 6-foot-3, but moves pretty well for a player who projects as more of a physical, stay-at-home skater.
According to NHL Edge tracking data, Borgen was in the 75th percentile of NHLers this past year with a max skating speed of 22.30 miles per hour. His four skating bursts over 22 miles per hour also placed him in the 91st percentile of players in the league.
The Minnesota native appeared in 75 games with the Rangers last season, scoring five goals and 10 assists while averaging 18:03 of ice time per game.
The Bruins now have a glut of defensemen on their roster, having already signed Connor Clifton and Jordan Harris earlier on Wednesday.
