Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson returns to action after taking a big hit during Sunday’s AFC North clash with Steelers
The idea of Deshaun Watson leading the Cleveland Browns in a Week 8 AFC North showdown that could have huge playoff implications was something most fans never imagined possible, but the veteran quarterback has secured his controversial place on the franchise by making winning plays. Although Todd Monken does not want to change what is presently working, injuries can tear a plan to shreds without warning.
Watson experienced a scare versus the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday afternoon. Safety Jaquan Brisker got called for a roughing the passer penalty after making contact on the QB’s helmet. The three-time Pro Bowler briefly exited the game and was evaluated for a concussion. He came out of the medical tent with his helmet and rejoined his teammates on the field, per Scott Petrak of the Chronicle-Telegram and Medina Gazette.
Shedeur Sanders completed 2-of-2 passes for two yards while Watson was sidelined. This squad is still best-suited to rely on its defense, even after the Myles Garrett blockbuster, but the signal-caller spot will always command the most headlines. Cleveland has gotten what it has needed from No. 4 to this point. He is facing his biggest test since the Browns got decimated by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the season opener.
Deshaun Watson completed 24-of-33 passes for 268 yards with one touchdown and one interception in a 27-24 victory versus the Steelers in Week 4, but posting viable production in Pittsburgh is a different challenge altogether. The No. 12 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft entered this divisional clash with a 64.8 completion percentage, 1,482 passing yards, eight total TDs and three picks.
