A body was found in a Shrewsbury lake Monday morning following a report of a possible drowning on Sunday afternoon, officials said.

At around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Shrewsbury police received a report that a male party was possibly drowning near Sunset Beach at Lake Quinsigamond, police said.

Local police searched on shore and in the water with divers and both underwater and airborne drones, police said. The man was not located during search efforts throughout Sunday.

In the early hours of Monday, a dive team using sonar technology located the male victim in the lake near Sunset Beach. The victim was pronounced dead shortly after, police said.

“We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends and loved ones of the victim of this tragedy,” the police department said in a press release.

The investigation into the drowning remains ongoing, police said Monday evening. The identity of the victim and further details have been released.
