Blessing Muzarabani Breaks Silence After Two-Year PSL Ban

Blessing Muzarabani Breaks Silence After Two-Year PSL Ban

Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani has responded after being banned from the next two editions of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), saying he never received a formal contract and therefore could not have breached one.

Blessing Muzarabani was initially expected to join Islamabad United for PSL 11 but later pulled out and signed for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL as a replacement player.

In a statement shared by his representatives, the fast bowler’s camp said they had stayed silent for the past six weeks to avoid adding to tensions around the matter. However, they said the growing criticism directed at the player on social media had forced them to respond.

According to the statement, Muzarabani and Islamabad United reached an agreement on February 13, but it was subject to a No Objection Certificate from Zimbabwe Cricket. His representatives argued that such clearance could not be completed without a formal contract from the league or franchise.

They said no contract was provided even by February 27. By that point, Muzarabani received an approach from Kolkata Knight Riders and accepted the offer.

His camp insisted that the player was neither drafted in the auction nor given an employment contract by the PSL. The statement added that a player cannot be accused of breaching an agreement that was never formally completed.

The representatives also called the two-year ban excessive and said it did not match punishments handed out in previous cases. They urged the PSL to withdraw the decision and described the matter as an administrative mistake rather than player misconduct.

The statement also pushed back against the online abuse aimed at Muzarabani, saying the criticism had gone too far.

Muzarabani, 29, has so far featured in only two matches for Kolkata Knight Riders after joining them as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman.
