Adelaide weather forecast for Monday April 20 and the days ahead

Adelaide is set for a settled autumn stretch this week, with cloudy skies clearing today before a run of mostly sunny, warm days takes hold across the city and nearby suburbs.

For Monday, Adelaide starts under cloud in the morning before sunshine returns in the afternoon, with the city tipped to reach 24 degrees. Light winds will shift southeast to southwesterly through the early afternoon, then ease back to an east to southeasterly flow later in the day. Across the metro, tops of 25 degrees are expected at Elizabeth, 23 at Glenelg, 22 at Mount Barker and 24 at Noarlunga. From there, the week trends warmer, with Tuesday shaping up as one of the nicest days of the run. Mostly sunny conditions and a top of 28 degrees are forecast for the city, following a cool start of 15 degrees.

By Wednesday, a little more cloud returns, though Adelaide itself is still looking fairly dry. There’s only a slight chance of a shower about the hills and southern suburbs, with next to no rain expected elsewhere. Temperatures ease slightly to 26 degrees after an overnight low of 18, while winds swing around from northerly to a light southeasterly by evening. Thursday brings another bright day, with sunny skies and a top of 28 degrees expected after a fresh 14-degree morning.

The settled pattern continues into Friday, with mostly sunny conditions and another maximum of 28 degrees. Saturday looks a touch more changeable as cloud increases and there’s a slight chance of a shower, especially later in the day as winds shift westerly. Even so, it will stay mild, with a top of 27 degrees. Sunday follows a similar pattern, with partly cloudy skies, another slight shower chance and a top of 26 degrees.

Across South Australia, the broader picture is also fairly calm, though there are a few regional differences worth watching. Morning fog patches are likely through southern and eastern districts on several days, which could make for reduced visibility on inland roads early in the day. Coastal parts of the south may see isolated light showers through Monday and again on Wednesday, with the best chance of measurable falls near southern coasts, ranges and the South East. Rainfall totals are expected to stay low for most districts, generally up to 2 mm across the agricultural area and West Coast district, with local falls of 2 to 5 mm near southern coasts and ranges and the South East districts. Isolated falls of 5 to 10 mm are possible about the Lower South East.

In the west and south, temperatures are expected to sit above average through much of the period, while the northeast stays a little closer to average at first. A cold front brushing the state during Tuesday and Wednesday will mostly bring a wind change rather than widespread wet weather, although the far southwest could see isolated showers and even a possible thunderstorm late Tuesday.

Have a great week!
