A train seat dispute on the Aravali Express turned violent after a 31-year-old model allegedly undressed herself, attacked an RPF assistant sub-inspector and a ticket checker with a razor blade, and smashed a coach window while trying to escape, railway police said.
The accused, identified as Thane-based model Antara Banerjee, was travelling to Surat on the Bandra-Ganganagar Aravali Express to shoot for a web series when the incident took place on the night of August 12.
According to the FIR registered on August 13, the trouble began after a passenger asked Banerjee to vacate a reserved seat that she was occupying. When she allegedly refused, the passenger called the Railway Protection Force and the ticket checker.
Banerjee allegedly became aggressive and verbally abused those who intervened.
According to railway police, Banerjee was upset after she could not get a ticket for the AC coach and had entered the compartment with a sleeper class ticket.
When she refused to vacate the reserved seat, her co-passenger called ticket checker Harikesh Tripathi. As the situation escalated, Tripathi called RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector Yamini Kant Mishra and constable Rajesh Kumar.
Mishra is the complainant in the case against Banerjee.
In her complaint, Mishra said attempts were made to calm Banerjee down, but she allegedly became increasingly aggressive. She then allegedly undressed herself, brandished a blade and caused injuries to Mishra, Tripathi and herself during the scuffle.
Mishra also alleged that her uniform and mobile phone were damaged during the confrontation, while her spectacles were broken.
The confrontation escalated further when RPF personnel blocked the doors of the AC coach, according to Mishra’s complaint.
Banerjee allegedly broke the glass of a window and attempted to escape from the coach. She was eventually handed over to the Government Railway Police at Dahanu station.
Banerjee was arrested on charges related to endangering safety, causing grievous harm to public servants, assault and intentional insult.
She was later released on bail.
The case was registered after the incident and further proceedings are underway.
