Amravati Hospital ICU Fire Kills 3 Newborns; Maharashtra Orders Probe – India Today

A fire broke out in the neonatal intensive care unit of District Women’s Hospital in Amravati, Maharashtra, after a ventilator reportedly exploded around 3:30 AM on Monday. Out of thirty-nine newborns present in the ICU, staff rescued thirty-six babies, while three newborns lost their lives. Six critically affected newborns were transferred to a nearby super speciality hospital for treatment. Following the incident, the Maharashtra government ordered a high-level probe and announced five lakh rupees in financial aid for the victims’ families. The tragedy has raised serious questions regarding hospital safety standards and infrastructure in smaller towns.
