A political war of words has intensified over the opposition alliance’s campaign against the Chief Election Commissioner. Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack against Rahul Gandhi and the Congress, urging the opposition to introspect rather than blaming SIR for repeated electoral defeats. He also alleged that SIR was being used as an excuse to protect infiltrators, asserting that the National Democratic Alliance will secure a massive victory in the 2029 general elections while Congress faces a fourth consecutive loss. In response, Congress leaders reaffirmed their resolve to continue protests until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resigns, maintaining that the opposition team will not stop until its end goal is achieved. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera questioned the Home Minister’s confidence regarding the 2029 election outcome, asking if it relied on the incumbent CEC remaining in office, while accusing the ruling party of compromising constitutional institutions.
