Adelaide is set for a warm and largely settled run through the working week, with sunny skies and above-average temperatures hanging around before a wetter change pushes in over the weekend.
Today, the city will be mostly sunny with a top of 26 degrees. Winds will stay fairly light, shifting west to northwesterly around the middle of the day before easing again. It’s a pleasant autumn day across Adelaide, with just a slight chance of rain and moderate UV levels around the middle of the day.
That sunny pattern continues tomorrow, with Adelaide warming further to 29 degrees after a morning low of 16. East to northeasterly winds will swing around during the day, but conditions are expected to stay dry and bright. Thursday looks similarly comfortable, though a touch cooler at 28 degrees and partly cloudy rather than full sun. Even so, it remains a warm end to April, with northerly winds keeping temperatures well above what’s typical for this time of year.
Friday keeps the mild-to-warm run going, with another mostly sunny day and a forecast top of 29 degrees. Winds will freshen from the north and northeast, which should give the day a slightly breezier feel, especially later on. While Adelaide itself is expected to stay dry through Friday, this is the point where the broader pattern begins to shift, with a trough moving into the state’s west and setting up a much more unsettled weekend.
By Saturday, that change is expected to reach the city. Showers are likely across Adelaide, with a very high chance of rain and possible falls of 2 to 10mm. There’s also the chance of a thunderstorm later in the day. Despite the wet weather, temperatures will still reach around 28 degrees, so it may feel a little humid before conditions turn. Sunday then brings a more noticeable cool change, with showers continuing, the risk of thunderstorms lingering, and temperatures dropping sharply to a top of just 20 degrees. Monday looks much the same, with cloudy skies, more showers, possible thunderstorms, and a top of 20 degrees as westerly winds take over.
Across South Australia, the story is much the same in broad terms, though regional areas will see the shift arrive at different times. A strong high-pressure system over the Tasman Sea is keeping most of the state settled through to Friday, with mostly sunny conditions and temperatures running above average across agricultural districts. Early fog patches are possible in some areas, particularly around the agricultural zone on Tuesday and in the southeast on Wednesday.
By Thursday, the temperatures will be well above average across the state and freshening northeast to northerly winds in the west during the afternoon. On Friday, conditions begin to break down in the far west, with showers and possible thunderstorms developing west of about Ceduna. Rainfall totals are expected to stay fairly light to the end of Friday, with 0 to 5mm forecast west of Ceduna, but it will mark the beginning of a broader weekend change likely to spread further across SA.
For coastal areas, Adelaide Metropolitan Waters remain relatively calm through midweek, with seas below 1 metre and low swell. By Friday, north to northeasterly winds increase to 15 to 20 knots and seas build to around 1 metre, so boaties may notice choppier conditions heading into the weekend.
Happy Tuesday!
