Adelaide is heading into a wet, windy and chilly run of weather this week, with rain arriving today, more showers through midweek, and daytime temperatures struggling in the mid-teens right through to Saturday.
For Adelaide, Sunday is set to be the wildest day of the stretch. Rain is expected across the city with a thunderstorm possible from late morning into the afternoon, and there’s little warmth on offer despite the northerly winds early on. A top of just 15 degrees is forecast, with 15 to 35mm of rain possible, before winds swing around from the northwest and then southwesterly later in the day. It will feel particularly wintry by evening as that change moves through.
Monday won’t bring much relief, although the heaviest rain should ease. Adelaide is looking at a cloudy day with showers most likely early, a minimum of 9 degrees and a top of 15. Winds will stay brisk from the west to southwest before easing and turning northwesterly later, keeping that cool edge in the air. Tuesday then looks like another unsettled day, with showers building again in the afternoon and evening as the next cold front approaches. Temperatures will remain below average, with a low of 8 and a high of 16, while gusty northerly winds shift westerly by evening.
By Wednesday, showers are still on the cards, especially through the morning and afternoon, before conditions gradually ease later in the day. Adelaide is forecast to reach 15 degrees after an overnight low of 8, with westerly winds slowly backing off through the afternoon. Thursday offers a modest improvement, though it won’t be completely dry, with a possible shower or two in the morning and a slightly milder top of 16 degrees. Friday follows a similar pattern, with partly cloudy skies, a medium chance of showers and light winds. By Saturday, the city should settle into a mostly grey but calmer day, with only a slight chance of a shower and another maximum of 16 degrees. In short, it’s a week for coats, umbrellas and allowing a little extra travel time, especially over the next few days.
Across regional South Australia, this cold front is bringing a much broader wintry blast. Rain is spreading across much of the state today before contracting to showers, with gusty thunderstorms possible through the agricultural areas and south of the Pastoral districts. Western coasts, ranges and elevated inland areas are in line for the strongest winds and the heaviest totals, with 15 to 30mm likely across many agricultural districts and 25 to 50mm possible about western-facing coasts and ranges. Local falls of 40 to 70mm are possible about the Mount Lofty Ranges, Flinders Ranges and with thunderstorms. The far northeast is the exception, with less than 2mm expected and some raised dust possible today. Frost is also likely to become an issue on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings in parts of the Flinders, the northern agricultural area and sections of the Pastoral districts. For coastal communities and boaters, conditions are especially rough, with strong to gale-force marine winds affecting several waters through Sunday and Monday.
