Adelaide is heading into a cool and mostly settled stretch of weather, with cloudy skies and a few passing showers this weekend before milder days return and rain chances lift again later in the week.
For today, Saturday, the city is looking at a cloudy day with a medium chance of showers, most likely through the morning and afternoon. Temperatures will stay on the cool side, reaching around 19 degrees across much of the metro area, including Elizabeth, Glenelg and Noarlunga, while Mount Barker is expected to top out at 16 degrees. Southerly winds will build during the middle of the day before easing again later on, making it feel a little chillier at times.
Sunday keeps Adelaide under plenty of cloud, though the chance of rain drops right back to just a slight chance of a shower. Light winds and a top of 19 degrees should make for a fairly calm end to the weekend, even if it stays grey.
By Monday, conditions improve a little more, with partly cloudy skies and a dry outlook for most of the day. Light winds and a forecast top of 21 degrees will bring a slightly more comfortable feel across Adelaide. Tuesday continues that gentle warming trend, with another partly cloudy day and a top of 23 degrees expected.
The middle of the week starts to shift again. Wednesday is forecast to stay partly cloudy, but the chance of showers returns, with light winds becoming easterly during the morning. Adelaide is expected to reach 23 degrees, with up to 3mm of rain possible. Thursday follows a similar pattern, with a medium chance of showers, especially during the morning, and northeasterly winds developing after an easterly start. Temperatures are set to hold at 23 degrees.
By Friday, the wettest day of the seven-day stretch is shaping up for Adelaide. Cloudy skies and a high chance of showers are forecast, with up to 6mm possible and a 70 per cent chance of rain. Northeasterly winds will turn northerly during the morning, and the temperature is again expected to peak at 23 degrees. For locals, that means the week starts cool and fairly quiet, then becomes milder but a bit more unsettled as the next change approaches.
Across the broader state, South Australia is expected to stay under the influence of a strong high pressure system through the weekend before a trough develops across the north early next week. That will keep isolated light showers around the southern agricultural area and the far western coasts through Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures generally near to below average at first, then closer to average by Sunday and into next week.
On Monday, isolated showers are expected about the southern and western coasts, while showers begin to develop in the far north. By Tuesday, patchy morning fog is possible in the west, while isolated showers and possible thunderstorms across the far north are forecast to extend south into central districts during the day. Rainfall totals are expected to stay fairly modest for many districts, but the Bureau says 2 to 5mm is possible across the southern agricultural area and the North East Pastoral district, with higher totals of 5 to 10mm possible across windward coasts, ranges and with thunderstorms in the northeast.
For Adelaide’s coastal waters, conditions look relatively manageable across the next few days, with seas generally below 1 metre and light to moderate winds. Even so, boaters should still keep an eye on changing winds, particularly through Saturday and Tuesday.
