Adelaide is in for a cool, mostly cloudy stretch over the next week, with a few light showers, chilly starts, and a wetter change likely early next week as a low pressure system moves across South Australia.
For Friday, the city is staying cloudy with a medium chance of showers, most likely later in the day and into the evening. Temperatures are staying cool, with a top of just 16 degrees in the city and light winds becoming westerly through the middle of the day. It’s not shaping up as a washout, but it’s worth keeping a jacket and umbrella handy if you’re heading out.
Saturday looks similar, though slightly milder, with a low of 10 degrees and a top of 17 degrees. Adelaide can expect partly cloudy skies and another shower or two, most likely in the morning, before conditions ease. By Sunday, things improve a little, with a partly cloudy day forecast and only a slight chance of rain. There could be some morning fog around the hills, but for most of metro Adelaide it should be a calmer end to the weekend, with a top of 18 degrees.
The new week brings another shift. Monday is expected to turn a little more unsettled, with a medium chance of showers as the next weather system pushes into the state. Adelaide’s top will reach 18 degrees after an overnight low of 10. Showers remain in the picture on Tuesday, with a top of 17 degrees and light winds becoming southwesterly during the morning. Wednesday then looks a touch drier, with only a slight chance of a shower and a cooler start of 8 degrees before reaching 17 degrees. By Thursday, cloud increases again and there’s a medium chance of showers later in the day, alongside north to northwesterly winds and a top of 18 degrees.
Adelaide Metropolitan Waters are also looking relatively manageable through the weekend and into Monday. Seas are expected to remain below 1 metre, with west to southwesterly swells staying low. Friday will be cloudy on the water with west to southwesterly winds of 10 to 15 knots, before Saturday becomes partly cloudy with lighter, more variable winds. Sunday looks especially calm, with seas below 0.5 metres, while Monday brings a 60 per cent chance of showers and a shift from northerly winds to south to southeasterly breezes during the day.
Across the rest of South Australia, the picture is a little more varied. Early morning fog is expected in parts of the Agricultural Areas, West Coast and nearby pastoral districts through Friday and Saturday, while frost is possible around the Flinders and Mid North. Showers in the state’s north on Friday should clear during the evening, but isolated light falls will linger around parts of the Agricultural Areas. On Saturday, showers will mainly affect the Southern Agricultural Area, especially windward coasts and ranges, while the far northwest could see isolated showers and possible thunderstorms.
Sunday marks the beginning of a broader change, with showers spreading into the far west and extending across western districts during the day. Rain is likely to develop in the far northwest, with possible thunderstorms in the northwest and far west. By Monday, showers are expected to extend statewide, turning to rain in parts of the pastoral districts, with thunderstorms again possible in the north and west. Rainfall totals to the end of Monday are forecast to range from 1 to 5mm in the Southern Agricultural Area, 5 to 10mm in the Northern Agricultural Area, and 10 to 20mm in the pastoral districts, with isolated thunderstorm falls of 20 to 40mm possible.
Happy Friday!
