Gold Coast family finds parcel stuck in palm tree days after courier driver launches order from van in Upper Coomera

A family spent two days searching for a missing parcel, only to discover it had been sitting in a tree above their heads the entire time.

The $170 order was due at the Upper Coomera home at the Gold Coast, Queensland, around midday on Monday when the delivery driver pulled up, wound down the van window and launched it towards the property.

CCTV shows the parcel flying over a parked ute before coming to rest in a palm tree next to the driveway just inside the property.

Kaz Shore was stunned when she eventually saw what had happened.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It landed in that part of the tree right there,” she told 7NEWS.

Until then, the family had assumed the order had gone to the wrong address after receiving a delivery notification from the courier.

“Delivered! Your parcel from Ecommerce Holdings has been left where you can find it.”

The family had no idea where it was delivered to and began searching and asking around.

“We looked in the garden, the neighbours… we were like we can’t find it anywhere. No one said anything,” daughter Kayley said.

But there was one place they hadn’t looked: up.

Kayley said she had walked straight past the parcel repeatedly.

“I walked past it at least a dozen times.”

It was only after the family went back through their CCTV the mystery finally made sense.

The driveway camera captured the courier arriving, winding down the window and throwing the parcel towards the house.

Shore said she could not believe what she saw.

“I was a bit puzzled, I hadn’t actually seen anything thrown out the van. Who would do this? Why would you not get out of the van?,” she said.

While Australia Post requires drivers to photograph deliveries, private couriers are not bound by the same standard.

The courier company responsible for the delivery, Parcel Right, said it was aware of the August 17 delivery and acknowledged the driver’s actions fell short of its standards.

“Every driver is required to treat customers’ parcels and property with care and respect,” the company said.

Parcel Right said its procedure requires parcels to be left in a “safe, dry, accessible location” with a proof-of-delivery photograph taken at the drop-off.

It said the incident was being addressed directly with the driver involved.

With the parcel wedged among the palm fronds, the family resorted to a broom to prod it back to ground level.

“I’ve never seen a parcel that went airborne and landed in a palm tree,” Kayley said.

7NEWS has attempted to contact the delivery company for comment, but has so far been unable to reach a spokesperson.
