Adelaide landmarks to glow green and gold tonight as SA rallies behind the Socceroos

A host of iconic South Australian landmarks will be lighting up in green and gold tonight as excitement builds for the Socceroos’ FIFA World Cup Round of 32 showdown against Egypt.

From the Adelaide skyline to regional landmarks, some of the state’s best-known buildings and public spaces will be illuminated in Australia’s national sporting colours as fans prepare for the early morning kick-off.

Among the landmarks joining the tribute are Adelaide Oval, Adelaide Railway Station, the Riverbank Footbridge, Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Adelaide Convention Centre, Adelaide Festival Centre, Adelaide Town Hall and Parliament House.

The green and gold display will also extend beyond the CBD, with Salisbury Community Hub, HMAS Whyalla, the Cove Civic Centre, Victor Harbor’s Elemental sculpture, and the Riddoch Arts and Culture Centre and Visitor Information Centre in Mount Gambier also taking part.

The lighting display comes as South Australians continue to embrace the World Cup, with thousands of fans flocking to the official live site at The Drive throughout the tournament to cheer on the Socceroos alongside fellow supporters.

The official Adelaide Live Site will once again open from 3am tomorrow morning ahead of the 3:30am Round 32 clash, giving football fans the chance to experience the match on the big screen in a lively atmosphere complete with food, drinks and entertainment.

Acting Premier Kyam Maher said, “The Socceroos have once again captured the imagination of South Australians and tomorrow morning the entire state will be behind them.

“Lighting some of South Australia’s most recognisable landmarks in green and gold is a simple but powerful way of showing our support for the Socceroos.

“The atmosphere at the official live site has been incredible, and we’re encouraging football fans to once again come together to support the Socceroos as they chase another World Cup victory.

“On behalf of all South Australians, we wish the Socceroos the very best of luck.”

With pubs opening before dawn, the official live site preparing for another bumper crowd, and Adelaide glowing green and gold tonight, the city is well and truly ready to get behind the Socceroos as they look to book their place in the Round of 16.
