The Doddaballapura Town police have registered a case against a 25-year-old AC mechanic for allegedly maintaining contact with individuals on social media accounts linked to Pakistan and engaging with content featuring Pakistani gangsters.
The accused has been identified as Syed Abubakar, a resident of Islampura in Doddaballapura.
According to the complaint filed by constable Roopesh Yadav, the police received information on August 20 around 10.30 a.m. that Abubakar was allegedly maintaining suspicious contacts with people in Pakistan.
The police questioned him at Islampura Circle around 11 a.m. The complaint stated that he allegedly failed to provide satisfactory answers and attempted to leave the spot, following which the police checked his mobile phone.
According to the complaint, Abubakar was using an Instagram account under the name “sayedabudakar313” and had allegedly liked reels featuring Pakistan-linked gangsters shared through an account identified as “Hammadmemon333.”
The police also alleged that he had uploaded videos of pakistan-based gangsters as his Instagram status and shared his identity card with the said account. The police further claimed that several photographs of pistols were found on his mobile phone, indicating his alleged interest in firearms.
Based on these allegations, the Doddaballapura Town police registered a case under Sections 113(3) (This sub-section punishes anyone who plans, tries, helps, or supports a terrorist act. It includes backing a terror group or preparing for an attack.) and 197(2) (anyone who promotes enmity, hatred, or spreads false news against national unity specifically inside a place of worship or during a religious ceremony) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The investigation is under way to establish the nature of his contacts, the identity of the persons behind the social media accounts and whether his online activities had any connection with organised criminal or anti-national networks.
