Lymphatic massage is nothing new, but it’s definitely having a moment. It’s in my DMs and group chats – everyone I know is curious if they can pay someone to sculpt their bodies in the space of an hour.
Turns out you can, but it’s not exactly that simple. Lymphatic massage can absolutely help you slide into a flimsy dress, but it can also be an effective tool to reduce bloat, enhance detoxification and improve your immunity. Our lymphatic system does all of this on its own – it’s essentially our bodies’ waste removal system and if it stopped working, we’d be dead – but things like travel, long periods of sitting, stress and hormones can reduce its efficacy. Hence the benefits of a great lymphatic treatment.
If you’re curious, we’ve compiled a list of the best lymphatic massage spots in Sydney, whether you want a fast-paced Brazilian beat down or something slower and restorative.
Ana Fook Brazilian Beauty
Where: Alexandria
Ana and her team specialise in Brazilian tools and techniques for a treatment that’s slightly intense but very effective. They’ve developed a cult following for a reason. Personally, I see Ana and her team regularly and always notice a difference in the way I feel in the days after a treatment. They even lather you with a warming cream after the fact to continue the benefits.
The Calmm
Where: Rose Bay, Newport
The Calmm is known for it’s soft, intuitive approach to body work and wellness in general (they offer classic massage, acupuncture and other holistic therapies). There’s a few lymphatic focused treatments on the menu, including the dynamic lymph detox treatment that involves detoxifying massage and full body LED.
Forme by Sophie Dulac
Where: Bondi
Venustus
Where: Paddington
Venustus is a Sydney institution with long-standing clientele who swear by founder Jeannie’s incredible approach to holistic wellness. Her body work treatment will leave you light and sculpted but also completely at ease. The one to try if you want results plus indulgence.
Lymphatic By Ainura
Where: Point Piper
Ainura has built up a loyal client base over the last 16 years working in Sydney (interestingly, pre-wellness she was a professional wrestler). Aside from working with patients post surgery, she also practises lymphatic drainage from her space in Point Piper.
Chakana
Where: Avalon
This day spa offers plenty of restorative treatments, lymphatic drainage included. A haven in the beaches, it’s perfect for a day of R&R.
Atma Wellbeing
Where: Dee Why
Atma is focused on the intersection of body work and healthcare, specialising in tension, muscle stiffness and clients in recovery post surgery. They’re also known as experts in lymphatic drainage, whether you’re just looking to feel light and less sluggish, or to treat ongoing/chronic health concerns.
What is lymphatic drainage?
Lymphatic drainage is a gentle, rhythmic massage technique designed to stimulate the body’s lymphatic system (the network responsible for moving fluid, flushing toxins and supporting immune function). Using light strokes, it encourages the movement of lymph to reduce fluid retention, ease inflammation and support circulation. The results can be both immediate and cumulative: less puffiness, more definition and an overall sense of lightness.
