A Different World viewers are going Kojo krazy over Hillman heartthrob Chibuikem Uche who, like commotion-causing co-star Cornell Young IV, continues to fuel heart eye hysteria while shining on the hit sequel series currently reigning at #1 on the streaming platform.
Originally from London (like his character on the show), the 26-year-old actor was born to Nigerian parents and lived in the UK until he was eight before moving to Connecticut.
He later attended the University of Connecticut where he earned a degree in mathematics and actuarial science, which lead to him working full-time for an insurance company.
What seemed like a solid career move was merely the prologue to his budding acting career with inspiration from Michael B. Jordan‘s star-turn in Creed.
“In my junior year of college, I woke up one morning and the trailer for Creed had just come out,” he recalled in an interview with Muscle & Fitness.
“Michael B. Jordan was someone who I had watched in The Wire, and Friday Night Lights, and all of a sudden I’m looking at this big, buff version of him. My best friend and I immediately looked up his fitness regimen.”
It’s that curiosity that pushed Uche to learn about nutrition by researching MBJ who ultimately inspired him to apply these lessons to his own lifestyle.
“I lived in West Hartford, and I would drive into Shelton, so I would get up at 7am and commute an hour into work,” he recalled.
“I would be in the office from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 a.m., so I couldn’t wait to get to the gym. The gym actually became something that I would do every day. I would spend two hours there because it was my release, and my opportunity to be active. I’ve always been an active, physical person, so when I was in finance, I held onto my fitness very tight.”
Following in the footsteps of MBJ and older brother, Chinaza, who pursued acting, Uche decided to make the leap to acting himself.
“When I felt this thing starting to bubble up inside of me, and brew more and more, I just wanted to jump into it,” he said.
Uche eventually packed up everything and committed himself to becoming a successful actor in Hollywood.
“That was the start of a crazy, crazy, beautiful journey,” he said.
Fast-forward to 2026 where Uche is booked and buzzy as Ghanaian-Nigerian fashion merchandising student Kojo Achebe who charms American girls (especially Rashida), builds close bonds with his Garvey Hall mates, and expresses his passion for clothing design on Netflix’s hit series A Different World.
“Being a fashion designer is not the expected path that his parents have for him,” said Uche about Kojo in an interview with TUDUM. “He’s a young man trying to find himself.”
