A national shooting coach has been accused of raping a 17-year-old national-level shooter in a hotel room in Faridabad under the pretext of evaluating her performance, police said, adding that a sexual assault case was registered.
According to the complaint, the teen athlete alleged that the incident occurred in Faridabad on December 16 during a shooting championship held at the Karni Singh Shooting Range in Delhi.
The coach, who was staying at a hotel in Faridabad’s Surajkund area, allegedly called her to the hotel lobby after the competition on the pretext of evaluating her performance.
The survivor said that the coach then pressured her into accompanying him to a hotel room, where he allegedly raped her. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the law and launched an investigation.
Faridabad Police spokesperson Yashpal Singh said all angles of the case were being examined and CCTV footage from the hotel and surrounding areas was being analysed.
