The future is light at Louis Vuitton spring summer 2027

Paris Fashion Week has officially come to an end, and what better way to bookmark the festivities than with a trip into the future, courtesy of Louis Vuitton? For spring summer 2027, Nicolas Ghesquière once again looked ahead – although perhaps not quite in the way we’ve come to expect from him.

The setting immediately set the SS27 story in motion. To be specific, the runway – inside the Louvre’s Cour Carrée – took the shape of a futuristic roadway, complete with suspended cars hovering above the models as they walked. But despite the industrial setting, what appeared on the runway was surprisingly soft – beginning with a series of white, lightweight dresses that floated around the body as the models moved, gently catching the light.

From there, Ghesquière began to introduce the sharper shapes we’ve come to associate with his tenure Louis Vuitton. Cropped jackets and straight-leg trousers gave the collection some structure, while silver-grey tailoring brought a futuristic edge without straying into the territory of too literal. But despite this shift, the gentle energy that set the scene was never far away – for example, in skirts worn over billowing trousers, with long ties trailed behind the body and sheer layers shifted with every step.

Fashion has been collectively fascinated with venturing back to Medieval times of late, but in Ghesquière’s rendition, it seems some of the hallmarks of that era could persist well into the future. Specifically, models took to the runway adorned by armour, from delicate belts of tinsel-like metal, to eye-covering fringes made from layers of a glass-like material that reflected the light, and metallic chokers wrapped around the neck. At the same time, accessories dipped far into the distant future, particularly with racing-style sunglasses in shades of brown, orange and pink.

Ghesquière may have been imagining what comes next, but for spring summer 2027, he did so through clothes that felt light and easy. Perhaps the future, after all, doesn’t need to look quite so far away.
