Seven arrested over ‘purification’ near KCR’s farmhouse

Seven persons were arrested in connection with an alleged purification held near Bharat Rashtra Samiithi (BRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s farmhouse in Siddipet district of Telangana following a protest organised by Congress workers and Dalit activists.

Police in Siddipet district said on Tuesday (September 15, 2026) that a case under relevant sections of SCs/STs (POA) Amendment Act, BNS and others was registered over the purification carried out, on September 8, by sprinkling turmeric water at Varadarajapur near KCR’s farmhouse at Erravelly in the district.

The case was booked at Markook Police Station following a complaint made by representatives of Congress SC wing — who alleged that the purification was an insult to Dalits.

After perusal of photos, videos and other available evidence, 15 people have been found to be involved and seven of them were arrested in Vijayawada in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh on September 14 (Monday), the police said.

They were produced before a court at Gajwel which sent them to judicial remand. Investigation was underway to apprehend the remaining accused, a release from police said.

Congress workers and Dalit activists held a protest near the farmhouse on September 8 against the alleged derogatory remarks made by BRS MLC Tata Madhusudhan against Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar when BRS legislators were stopped by police at Assembly gate on September 7. The remarks, denied by Madhusudhan, led to a furore with ruling Congress MLAs and others hitting out at him and the BRS.
