BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu has accused AAP MLA Rajinder Pal Kaur Chhina of slapping a truck driver after he allegedly took time to give way to her vehicle in Ludhiana.
Bittu shared a video of the incident and urged Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to take action against the Ludhiana South MLA.
The video, which has gone viral, shows the MLA’s vehicle following a tipper truck. Chhina is later seen stepping out of her vehicle with her security personnel and others, approaching the truck and asking the driver to get down before arguing with him.
Bittu alleged that the MLA slapped the driver during the confrontation. The video does not clearly establish whether the driver was struck.
Reacting to the controversy, AAP spokesperson Baltej Pannu said the party was aware of the video. He also criticised the Opposition for targeting the government despite the AAP having resolved issues such as electricity.
The allegation comes a week after the AAP government faced accusations that a man was tortured in police custody for protesting against CM Mann.
BJP Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh has written to the National Human Rights Commission seeking an investigation into the alleged custodial torture of Mohanjeet Singh, who reportedly waved a black flag during the Chief Minister’s public interaction in Sheron village in the Sunam Assembly constituency on September 2.
According to Chugh, Mohanjeet was detained immediately after the protest. Mohanjeet later alleged that he was stripped, assaulted and given electric shocks in custody.
He also accused police personnel of pulling hair from his beard, cutting his thighs with blades and rubbing salt into the wounds. He further claimed that he was shown to CM Mann over a video call while being tortured and that police personnel harassed his mother and sister.
Chugh accused the AAP government of attempting to silence dissent through intimidation and claimed that Punjab’s voters would remove it from power.
