The Cleveland Browns are just over two weeks away from kicking off their 2026 NFL season. The Browns’ offseason was headlined by the trade of superstar Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams, which brought back pass rusher Jared Verse and draft compensation in return.
Now, the Browns have made another move to help themselves out on the defensive line.
“Sources: The #Browns are expected to sign former #Cowboys DE Sam Williams. The former 2nd-round pick had 9.5 sacks, 22 TFLs and 4 forced fumbles during his tenure in Dallas,” reported NFL insider Jordan Schultz on X, formerly Twitter.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN later clarified on X that “It’s a 53-man roster spot for Williams, who had 9.5 career sacks for Dallas. He has $2M in guarantees from his previous deal with the Cowboys.”
Williams was released by the Cowboys on Sunday as part of the team’s roster cuts, as Dallas looks to give things a try with its newly revamped defense this year. However, he was still a solid contributor during his career with the Cowboys, as indicated by his impressive numbers, and should play a big role for the Browns during the upcoming season.
Not many fans expect the Browns to compete for much of anything outside of another top draft pick this year, as Todd Monken recently announced that Deshaun Watson would be getting the starting quarterback job ahead of Shedeur Sanders.
The Browns are slated to kick off their new season on September 13 with a road game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
