The Cleveland Browns have signed a recently-released running back to help bolster their backfield depth ahead of the seaon.
The Cleveland Browns are counting down the days until their 2026 NFL season gets underway in just over a week. The Browns aren’t expected to be very competitive this year with quarterback Deshaun Watson at the helm, although stranger things have (seemingly) happened.
On Tuesday, the Browns made a big addition in free agency to help add depth to their offensive backfield.
“The #Browns have signed former #Broncos RB Jaleel McLaughlin after he was released on Sunday. McLaughlin has 1,093 rushing yards and 3 TDs, along with 59 catches for 263 yards and 4 TDs,” reported NFL insider Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team on X, formerly Twitter.
McLaughlin figures to provide the Browns with another contributor in the backfield behind starter Quinshon Judkins and backup Dylan Sampson. Judkins, the former Ohio State standout, had some moments for Cleveland last year, although off-field issues and injuries limited his overall impact in his first season at the professional level.
Meanwhile, all eyes will be on the quarterback position for the Browns this year, with many fans seemingly hoping that Watson will make a mistake and give head coach Todd Monken the opportunity to insert Shedeur Sanders into the mix. Sanders didn’t exactly light the world on fire during his starts for Cleveland last year, but his youth, room for growth, and lack of off-field issues have all made him a more desirable candidate for the starting role in many fans’ and pundits’ eyes.
In any case, the Browns are slated to get their 2026 regular season underway on September 13 with a tough road game against the Jacksonville Jagurs. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm ET.
