A man has been charged after he allegedly attempted to drop more than $1 million worth of drugs into a Queensland prison using a drone.
Queensland Police say a drone was located inside the Townsville Correctional Centre with a package attached to it, which allegedly contained methylamphetamine and GBL, prescription drugs, a glass pipe, and syringes, on May 17.
A mobile phone and SIM card were also allegedly located in the drone’s package.

A 47-year-old man has been charged with five counts of supplying dangerous drugs into a correctional facility following an investigation by Corrective Services officers and the Townsville and Bundaberg Criminal Investigation Branches.
The man has also been charged with trafficking dangerous drugs, dealing with a prohibited item in a corrective services facility, supplying a medication and drone-related offences.
Detective Acting Inspector Erica Gray says the investigation was part of a “coordinated” effort to prevent drugs entering the Queensland prison system.
“These charges are a disruption to the supply of illicit drugs into Queensland’s correctional centres and reflect the value of regional partnerships and targeted intelligence-led investigations,” Detective Acting Inspector Gray said.
“Preventing drugs from entering correctional facilities is critical to the safety of staff, prisoners and the broader community.
“We will continue working with our law enforcement partners to identify those involved and hold them accountable.”
The man is scheduled to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on August 25.
