What if an entire apartment society could stop sending almost all its waste to landfills?
At Brigade Meadows in Bengaluru, nearly **7,000 residents generate around 800 kg of waste every day**. But instead of sending it all to landfills, the society segregates, composts, recycles and scientifically disposes of its waste.
In this episode of **Solved in India**, we explore how Brigade Meadows transformed its waste management system — and what other apartment societies across India can learn from it.
Today:
🍃 Around **800 kg of wet waste** is converted into compost
🌾 Compost is supplied to farmers as fertilizer
♻️ Dry and reject waste is sent for recycling and appropriate processing
🏥 Medical waste, diapers and sanitary waste are scientifically disposed of
🥛 Milk packets are cleaned, dried and prepared for recycling
💧 Nearly **6 lakh litres of treated water are recycled every day** for flushing and gardening
📦 Recyclable materials such as cardboard and old electronics also generate funds for the society
The result? A community that once struggled with overflowing waste is now diverting almost all of its waste away from landfills.
Could this model work in your apartment society?
Imagine if more housing societies across India adopted proper wet, dry and reject waste management. How much waste could we keep out of our landfills?
