Jamie Vardy’s options revealed as Premier League icon mulls over next club

Jamie Vardy is weighing up his next move as the Premier League icon considers several potential destinations following his return from Italy.

The 39-year-old remains a free agent after leaving Cremonese and appears to have no shortage of options as he decides where to continue his remarkable career.

A return to England seemingly remains Vardy’s preference, with Sheffield Wednesday and West Ham both emerging as potential destinations.

However, an intriguing alternative has now appeared from Brazil, where Sao Paulo are reportedly interested in bringing the former Leicester City striker to South America.

Discussing the possibility of Vardy making the unexpected switch, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook refused to rule out a deal.

“That doesn’t surprise me because Jamie Vardy still looks in top physical condition,” he said.

“He did pretty well over in Italy.

“I think he’d prefer a return to English football, but I wouldn’t totally rule out a move to Brazil.

“Who knows, that might be the next chapter of the documentary that I’ve just started watching about his incredible career.

“But he’s certainly got no shortage of interest. Sheffield Wednesday, his boyhood club, have chanced their arm. I think financially that’s quite a difficult deal for the Owls to do.”

Wednesday would offer Vardy the opportunity to represent his boyhood club, although finances could prove a major obstacle.

Owls chairman David Storch has admitted he would be “thrilled” to sign the veteran and said the club are “trying to figure out” whether they can navigate their financial restrictions to construct an acceptable offer.

However, putting together a sufficiently attractive package for Vardy is believed to be extremely challenging under the restrictions currently in place.

West Ham represent another possible route back into English football.

The Hammers made an inquiry over Vardy before the Championship campaign started as Nuno Espirito Santo looks to strengthen his attacking options.

Vardy is not the only striker on West Ham’s radar, with former Tottenham forward Troy Parrott and Leeds United’s Joel Piroe also reportedly being considered.

There was also excitement among Leicester supporters earlier this summer when Vardy was spotted back at his former club.

Footage showed him training in Leicester gear, inevitably fuelling speculation that a sensational reunion could be possible.

However, Vardy was merely using the facilities to check his fitness levels and his appearance was not an indication that a return was being lined up.

His search for a new club follows a one-season spell in Italy with Cremonese.

Vardy scored seven goals and provided three assists across 29 appearances but was unable to prevent the club from suffering relegation from Serie A.

He had reportedly been prepared to extend his stay had Cremonese survived.
