Two children fell ill after allegedly consuming worm-infested laddus distributed during an Independence Day programme at a school in Madhya Pradesh, officials said. The shop that supplied the sweets was subsequently sealed.
The incident took place at a middle school in Songuradia village of Indore district, where laddus were distributed to children as part of the celebrations. A purported video of worms in the laddus has since gone viral on social media.
An eight-year-old girl first noticed worms in her laddu and alerted others. The remaining sweets were examined, and worms were allegedly found in them, prompting villagers to stop the distribution immediately.
Two children who had consumed the laddus later fell ill, following which the district administration was informed.
Police and Food Department officials reached the school, seized the laddus and collected samples for testing. They also sealed the shop that supplied the sweets and launched an investigation.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the preparation and supply of the sweets.
