KickStart for Kids is calling on South Australians to help vulnerable children stay warm this winter, with urgent donations of new clothing needed ahead of its July Camp KickStart School Holiday Program.
The South Australian not-for-profit organisation is asking for donations of new clothing for children aged 5 to 12, with winter essentials including shoes, socks, underwear, pyjamas, jumpers, trackies and leggings all urgently needed.
Founder of KickStart for Kids, Ian Steel, said many of the children supported by the charity are in desperate need of basic winter clothing.
“Our kids we look after are in desperate need of new winter clothes. With cost of living, these kids and their families and are doing it so tough at the moment. If you have a chance, please drop off new clothing – socks, shoes, undies – we are so grateful!” Ian said.
Camp KickStart is the organisation’s much-loved school holiday program, providing care, support and activities for vulnerable and disadvantaged children during the school break.
For many children, the program offers far more than a place to go during the holidays. It gives them the chance to take part in fun activities, make friends, feel supported and access things many families may not be able to afford.
As part of Camp KickStart, the organisation sets up pop-up shops where children can choose brand new clothes for themselves. For some children, it is an experience they may never have had before.
KickStart for Kids says donations do not need to be expensive to make a difference. New items from retailers such as Kmart, Big W and Target can cost as little as $3, but can go a long way in helping a child feel confident, warm and cared for.
The following NEW clothing items are urgently needed:
- Shoes – in particular sizes 6 and 7
- Socks and Undies all sizes
- Sleepwear, PJs. – Boys sizes 7 – 16. Girls sizes 5 – 16
- Windcheaters – warm tops. Boys size 5 and sizes 9 – 16. Girls sizes 7 –16
- Trackies. Sizes 5,6,7 and 9 to 16
- Leggings. All sizes
- Shorts Boys. Sizes 9, 14, 16. Girls all sizes.
- Tshirts. Girls sizes 8 – 16
Donations can be dropped off at KickStart for Kids, 87 James Melrose Road, Novar Gardens SA 5040.
