Tonight, A Current Affair devotes its entire broadcast to the case of Keli Lane, with Ally Langdon interviewing the man who has stood by her for almost two decades and remains convinced of her innocence.
Keli Lane was convicted of murdering her newborn daughter, Tegan, in 1996 and is currently serving an 18-year prison sentence. She continues to maintain her innocence and remains behind bars after becoming the first NSW prisoner to be refused parole in 2024 under the state’s “No Body, No Parole” legislation.
The case has previously been examined in an ABC documentary series by Caro Meldrum-Hanna.

In the first part of the program, Ally Langdon speaks with Patrick Cogan, Keli Lane’s partner of 17 years. Cogan has supported Lane throughout her trial and almost 16 years of imprisonment, saying that commitment ultimately cost him his career.
According to Cogan, he believes Lane is innocent and that Tegan is still alive.
“Keli Lane wouldn’t hurt a flea…
We thought we had found Tegan.”
The second part of the broadcast features the first public comments from the daughter Keli Lane raised before her imprisonment. Now 25, she shares her story through a letter provided to A Current Affair.
She writes about being nine years old when her mother dropped her at school before being taken into custody and never returning home. Remaining anonymous, she also shares previously unseen baby photographs of herself with Keli Lane, along with a letter addressed to authorities.
“I am a forgotten victim in this situation.”
