Spider-Man: Brand New Day is all that fans would be anticipating which also moves the narrative along and is sure to be a box office smash.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day delivers all the action, comedy, cameos and drama that fans of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man have come to expect in this his 4th solo feature film outing in the webbed suit.
Four years have passed since Dr Stephen Strange placed his spell on the world to forget Peter Parker at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Peter Parker (Tom Holland) now lives alone but he continues his work to fight crime in New York including, finally defeating “The Hand” and battling Scorpion (Michael Mando). Spider-Man frequently liaises with Detective Jean DeWolff (Liza Colón-Zayas) of the NYPD in this work. He also comes across Frank Castle aka Punisher (Jon Bernthal) who is still fighting crime in his own more lethal way.
Peter badly misses his girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) and his best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) who are moving on with their college lives at MIT and Peter stalks them on social media. After helping with a number of mysterious cases, Spider-Man is enlisted by William “Bill” Metzger (Tramell Tillman) who is the Director of the United States Department of Damage Control to find the new foe. Spider-Man encounters the strange entity leading to danger to not just himself but his old friends as well.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day contains a number of interesting cameos and crossovers, which won’t be spoiled in this review (except one is green), which fans will certainly enjoy. One crossover very weirdly takes place in a sauna.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton returns to the superhero world, after also directing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 2021, and uses the reported budget of $225 million USD to great effect with large and loud action scenes with spectacular special effects which have become the hallmark of this brand of superhero films.
Holland, Zendaya and Batalon are now in a groove as the main characters and all the cast, whether in new or returning characters, perform well. Marvel fan favourite, Jon Bernthal as Punisher, is always a scene stealer and is so again in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
