The Cleveland Browns have gotten training camp underway this week as they gear up for the 2026 NFL season. The Browns took a major step back talent-wise this summer when they dealt Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams, but on Wednesday, the team made a big move to secure another one of their defensive stars on a new deal.
“Sources: Browns safety Grant Delpit is signing a three-year extension worth $16 million per year that also includes $35 million guaranteed. David Mulugheta of Athletes First and the Browns finished off the agreement today. This will be Delpit’s third NFL contract and it ties him to Cleveland through the 2029 season,” reported NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.
Delpit has been a good safety for the Browns for several years now, having been drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of LSU. Cleveland’s defense has had some moments over the last couple of seasons, despite the team’s struggles overall, and now, Delpit will continue to be part of that unit over the long haul.
Delpit will be 28 early on next season, so clearly, the Browns are banking on the star to stay elite well into his 30s, which is generally viewed as past the prime of most players at the cornerback position.
Meanwhile, the Browns have plenty of other questions to sort out this offseason, namely who will be their starting quarterback for Week 1, as both Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson compete for the job.
Cleveland is set to kick off its new season on September 13 vs the Jacksonville Jaguars.
