Adelaide’s matcha obsession is showing no signs of slowing down, with one of the city’s favourite matcha brands opening the doors to what could be their biggest and longest pop-up yet.
Locally renowned for their matcha and sweet treats, Monday Matcha are bringing their signature green (and blue) glow to their new home just outside the beating heart of the CBD, Rundle Mall. They are taking over the now vacant space where Carton Deli used to be.
The team took to social media to cryptically announce the new pop-up, with the five second clip whisking up a wave of excitement among followers.
Co-founders, Lia and Jack are keen to unveil another highly anticipated pop-up adventure, never imagining the whirlwind Monday Matcha would turn out to be. The pair shared a weekly tradition of catching up every Monday over a matcha and something sweet, a ritual that would eventually inspire the creation of Monday Matcha.
“And we thought to ourselves, ‘why don’t we create our own drink store?’” Lia said.
While Lia and Jack can’t share too much about the new pop-up, they are excited to announce that they can now prepare warm coffees with their brand new coffee machine. The perfect way to defrost in this winter chill.
They are also releasing Monday hot chocolates, made especially rich with South Australian icon, Haigh’s Chocolate. And in case that doesn’t sound enticing enough, the hot chocolate will also be topped with golden toasted marshmallow.
But don’t worry, fan favourites aren’t going anywhere. The popular maple sea salt whip will remain a menu staple, adding the perfect sweet-and-salty finish to either coffee or matcha.
Their new pop-up is on track to open 1 August 2026, following their string of successful pop-ups since January, in which Monday Matcha hit their stride.
“We went from just having Jack and myself, to a few people helping us out.”
“We were making probably 10 drinks a day,” when they first started, to then “making 400 at some points in January.”
And of course, you can still expect the same popular sweet treats, cookies and generously iced and fluffy cinnamon scrolls. When you walk into the pop-up, get ready for familiar pops of blue among stainless steel, with new wooden accents to compliment the vibe of Rundle Mall and Pulteney Street.
“We hope it’s a place where people can sit down, relax … and it’s welcome to everyone.”
