The latest on Jaylen Brown: The Celtics‘ offseason has so far centered around trade rumors, with the latest focusing on Jaylen Brown. The 2026 MVP candidate was reportedly the centerpiece of the proposed (and ultimately unsuccessful) Boston attempt to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo. Now, Brown could be involved in a separate trade as the Celtics appear to be shopping him around.
This was reinforced by a Monday morning report from ESPN’s NBA insider, Shams Charania. Speaking on SportsCenter, Charania provided an update from the weekend.
“The Celtics spent the entire weekend canvassing the league for Jaylen Brown trades, even trying to see is there a third team, a fourth team-deal that they can come up with,” he explained.
Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens seems to be driving a hard bargain even with the increasingly public knowledge that the team is setting up to potentially trade one of its stars.
“They’ve set a really high bar in these trade talks,” Charania explained. “They’ve asked a lot of teams, for even up to four first-round picks. And rival teams that I’m speaking to are finding a hard time figuring out what Jaylen Brown’s actual market is, especially at the valuation that the Celtics are seeking a deal at. Is there even a deal at the value of four first-round picks?
“How Jaylen Brown handles this, how the next couple of days, how the next week or so goes, that could play a big factor in the urgency level that develops in Boston.”
Trivia: While four first-round picks for one player sounds like a lot, there was a trade in 2019 that far exceeded this figure in terms of draft capital. What player was traded to the Clippers in exchange for (among other major components of the deal) five first-round picks and two pick-swaps?
(Answer at the bottom.)
Hint: He was on the team that eliminated the Celtics in the 2026 NBA playoffs.

More from Boston.com:
Canadian history: For the first time in the history of its men’s national team, Canada won a knockout round game at the World Cup, defeating South Africa with a dramatic late goal from Stephen Eustáquio on Sunday to advance to the Round of 16.
The Bruins at Fenway: Charlie McAvoy and Jeremy Swayman threw out the first pitch prior to the Red Sox game.
On this day: In 1958, Brazil — led by 17-year-old Pele — won it first World Cup title, defeating host nation Sweden 5-2 in the final. Pele and Vavá each scored twice, though the legendary feat did not warrant mention in the fairly terse AP account, which was the only reference to the tournament in most American media at the time.
Daily highlight: There is simply no other choice for a daily highlight today than this absolute masterclass of an assist and finish from the Leeds powerchair soccer team.
