Delivery riders in Dubai now have access to 40 air-conditioned rest areas across the city as temperatures begin rising ahead of the summer season.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that all 40 facilities are fully operational, providing riders with dedicated spaces to cool down, rest, recharge their phones, and access drinking water while on duty.
The initiative comes as Dubai prepares for another summer of extreme heat, with thousands of riders spending long hours on the road every day delivering food, groceries, parcels, and other essentials.

Built Where Riders Need Them Most
The rest areas have been strategically placed in some of Dubai’s busiest delivery zones, including Hessa Street, Al Khawaneej, Al Barsha, Al Satwa, Oud Maitha, Al Karama, and Arjan.
According to the RTA, the locations were selected based on operational data and delivery demand patterns in collaboration with delivery companies operating across the emirate.
Rather than creating facilities in low-traffic areas, the authority focused on locations where riders spend the most time during their shifts.
More Than Just A Place To Sit
These facilities have been designed specifically for delivery riders in Dubai and include several practical features that make a difference during the hotter months.
Each rest area offers a fully air-conditioned indoor space, drinking water dispensers, mobile phone charging stations, and dedicated motorcycle parking.
Most locations can accommodate around 10 riders at a time, allowing them to take a break without travelling far from their delivery routes.
The structures have also been engineered to minimise heat exposure, with exterior designs that help reduce direct sunlight and improve thermal insulation.
Safety Is The Main Goal
The RTA says the project forms part of its wider strategy to improve road safety and enhance working conditions within Dubai’s rapidly growing delivery sector.
Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of the Licensing Agency at the RTA, said traffic safety remains one of the authority’s highest priorities and that the initiative supports a broader governance framework for delivery operations across Dubai.
By providing safe and comfortable rest spaces, the authority hopes to reduce fatigue, improve rider wellbeing, and encourage greater compliance with traffic regulations.
From Three Rest Areas To Forty
The initiative has expanded significantly since it was first announced.
When the project was initially revealed in late 2023, only three rider rest areas were planned.
Since then, the network has grown to 40 fully operational locations across the city, making it one of the largest rider welfare initiatives introduced in Dubai’s delivery industry.
The expansion reflects the increasing role delivery services play in everyday life across the emirate and the growing recognition of the workforce behind them.
Why This Matters
For many residents, ordering food, groceries, or household essentials has become part of daily life.
Behind every delivery is a rider spending hours navigating traffic and working outdoors, often in challenging weather conditions.
The new network of rest areas gives delivery riders in Dubai access to something simple but important: a safe place to recover, rehydrate, and recharge before getting back on the road.
With all 40 facilities now operational ahead of peak summer temperatures, riders across the city have a dedicated support system designed specifically for the realities of their job.
