Cleveland’s goodbye message to Myles Garrett after trade to Rams

The Cleveland Browns completed one of the most significant trades in franchise history Monday afternoon, finalizing a deal that sends superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams. The Browns’ goodbye message followed the blockbuster move, which brings Jared Verse and major draft capital back to Cleveland.

Garrett leaves as the franchise’s all-time sack leader with 125.5 sacks. The seven-time Pro Bowler, five-time First-Team All-Pro, and reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year also set the team’s single-season sack record with 23 during his final year with the Browns.

The return gives Cleveland a major reset package. The Browns receive Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick as the franchise pivots toward a younger core.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared the Browns’ official tribute Monday on X, formerly Twitter, after the franchise moved on from one of the NFL’s most decorated defensive players.

“Myles never stopped raising the bar for what greatness looks like. We are grateful for every memory and every milestone from these nine unforgettable years.”

The timing also carried salary cap significance. By completing the deal after June 1, Cleveland can split Garrett’s dead money across two seasons instead of absorbing the full $41 million hit in 2026.

For the Rams, the move creates a rare championship push. Los Angeles now pairs reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford with the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, giving Sean McVay and Les Snead another aggressive roster swing.

For the Browns and their fan base, the trade marks a clear shift. Andrew Berry once hoped Garrett would remain a one-helmet player, but Verse and future draft capital now shape the next stage of the Browns’ rebuild.
