Officeworks has informed workers it is shifting hundreds of customer service and IT jobs overseas.
The Australian office supplies and tech retailer confirmed the decision was part of a “significant” business transformation that will allow it to offer customers “low prices”.
Dozens of staff at Officeworks’ western Sydney customer service centre have been told their roles are redundant and will be replaced with workers in Manila, in the Philippines, the ABC reported.

Tech support business Geeks2U and further office roles in Melbourne and Sydney are expected to be moved to Bengaluru, India, in the coming months.
“As announced earlier this year, Officeworks has commenced a significant business transformation program, so we can continue to offer customers low prices and invest in our range, stores and technology,” Officeworks said in a statement.
“With rising costs, increasing competition and rapidly changing customer expectations, this transformation is critical to strengthening our growth, resilience and competitiveness in a fast-evolving retail landscape.
“As part of this program, some activities currently performed in our Australian support office will transition to a new global centre in Bengaluru to support our stores and support offices.
“The work currently done by our customer service centre is transitioning to an experienced provider in Manila with an ongoing Australian presence.”

Officeworks, which is part of Wesfarmers’ retail portfolio, employs more than 9000 team members and runs 170 stores across the country.
The retailer said the changes would “affect a portion” of its support office workforce and that the majority of its team, including it store network, will continue to be based in Australia.
“We remain committed to investing in our local operations. As we open new stores to better serve our customers, we are also creating more jobs across Australian communities,” the company said.
“This is difficult for affected team members, who will be supported with redundancy entitlements alongside redeployment opportunities and outplacement support where possible.”
The company is the latest Australian business to shift white collar roles overseas, following major banks, accounting giants, and telecommunications firms.
Officeworks reported a 3.8 per cent increase in revenue to $3.57 billion in its 2025 full-year results.
Annual profit rose 1.9 per cent to $212 million.
