When Anirban and Poulami Nandy received an opportunity to pursue postdoctoral studies in the US, they made a different choice.
They stayed back in India.
What followed was years spent taking books into villages, slums, and remote communities across North Bengal – creating mobile libraries, ₹10 tuition classes, free learning spaces, and opportunities for children who had never owned books outside school.
Today, their mobile libraries hold over 25,000 books and reach more than 50,000 children across the region.
Their work didn’t stop there. They’ve also trained over 83,000 Adivasi women in mushroom farming, helping families build independent incomes for the first time.
