Tedy Bruschi’s going fishing: As if to mark the first “scorcher” of the season, a local news story inadvertently captured the sight of a Patriots legend preparing for a day of fishing on Tuesday morning.
Tedy Bruschi was spotted by A.J. Mastrangelo, an NBC 10 meteorologist, during a segment in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.
As Mastrangelo advised viewers on what to wear amid temperatures that are expected to reach into the 90s, he eventually referenced the person in the background of his shot as “none other than Patriot legend Tedy Bruschi making an appearance as well.”
“As you can see, Tedy is dressed for the water temperature, not the air temperature,” Mastrangelo explained, noting the three-time Super Bowl champion was dressed in pants and a sweatshirt.
As he continued through safety tips, Mastrangelo was eventually joined on camera by the ex-Patriots linebacker. Bruschi noted that he observes the rules, and is equipped with a life jacket.
Asked what he would be fishing for, Bruschi — who has a well-documented love of fishing — noted he was “going for [tautog].”
One detail he omitted was exactly where he would be going to find the fish.
“We can’t give up our spots. No spot burns here,” he joked with Mastrangelo.

Trivia: Tedy Bruchi was the third player the Patriots picked in the 1996 NFL Draft. Can you name the two players New England selected before him?
(Answer at the bottom).
Hint: One was a wide receiver from Ohio State. The other was a safety from Washington.

Scotland’s World Cup squad: Ewan McGregor narrated the rollout video for Scotland’s 26-player roster ahead of the start of the World Cup in June. Scotland will play twice at “Boston Stadium” (Gillette Stadium). The first game is on June 13 against Haiti before the Scots play Morocco on June 19.

On this day: In 2008, Jon Lester threw a no-hitter in a 7-0 Red Sox win over the Royals at Fenway Park. Lester, who had been diagnosed with a form of cancer (anaplastic large cell lymphoma) less than two years earlier, had dealt with his share of adversity as he fought to get back on the pitcher’s mound.
Yet the legendary left-hander made it through the health scare and returned to help Boston win the World Series in 2007. By 2008, he was starting to tap into his full potential.
Daily highlight: Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama produced an instant classic performance on Monday, totaling 41 points and 24 rebounds. His deep 3-pointer to tie the game with less than 30 seconds remaining was probably the standout highlight, though his entire performance was worthy of appreciation in San Antonio’s Game 1 Western Conference Finals win over the Thunder.
