Former governor-general and retired Anglican archbishop Peter Hollingworth has died, aged 91.
His death in Melbourne on Tuesday morning was confirmed to the ABC by Archbishop of Brisbane Jeremy Greaves.
He had reportedly been unwell for a long period of time.

Born in 1935, Hollingworth ordained an an Anglican priest in 1960.
He was was appointed an officer of the British Empire in 1976, named Australian of the Year in 1991, and served as Australia’s 23rd governor-general between 2001 and 2003.
He resigned from the latter position following controversy of his handling of sex abuse claims against Anglican clergy in the 1990s.
