Delhi Police Nehru Place assault case: 2 Northeast women allege racial abuse in Delhi, Four accused identified

Delhi Police have identified four main accused in an alleged case of assault and racial abuse of two women from the Northeast near Nehru Place in Delhi, after the women accused a group of men of molestation, stalking and physical assault outside a club in the area.

The case came to light after the two women alleged that they were catcalled and subjected to racist remarks while having tea near Eros Hotel in southeast Delhi during the early hours of May 10. The argument later turned violent, with the women accusing the group of assaulting them and tearing their clothes.

One of the complainants also alleged that she was molested during the incident, while another claimed she was attacked with a bamboo stick when they tried to leave the area.

POLICE IDENTIFY FOUR ACCUSED

In an update on the investigation, Delhi Police said four main accused have now been identified after CCTV footage from nearby areas was examined and several witnesses questioned.

“Multiple police teams are conducting raids to places and addresses linked to these accused to arrest them,” police said.

According to police, a PCR call regarding women in distress was received at Kalkaji police station at around 7 am on May 10. Officers rushed to a tea stall near Eros Hotel in Nehru Place, where the two women were found.

“Preliminary enquiry revealed that the victims were subjected to derogatory remarks and abuses which led to a physical altercation amongst the victims and accused,” a senior officer said.

WOMEN ALLEGED RACIAL ABUSE AND MOLESTATION

The women told police they were outside the hotel having tea when two men allegedly began catcalling them. They alleged that several others soon joined in, escalating the confrontation.

Police said the complainants alleged that racist remarks were passed against them during the altercation. The accused also allegedly blocked their path and threatened them with consequences if they spoke about the incident.

Both women were taken to AIIMS for medical examination after police arrived at the scene.

FIR REGISTERED UNDER MULTIPLE BNS SECTIONS

Delhi Police registered FIR at Kalkaji police station. The sections invoked relate to voluntarily causing hurt, assault on a woman with intent to outrage modesty, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, stalking and common intention.

Police said the women informed investigators that they would be able to identify the accused if produced before them.

During the investigation, eight people, including witnesses and passersby, were rounded up and questioned before the four accused were identified. No arrests had been made till the latest update.
