Worcester man fatally stabbed near NYC’s Times Square identified

The 39-year-old fatally stabbed near Times Square in New York City Monday night has been identified as a Worcester man, police said.

Leonides Baez, with a Main Street address in Worcester, died of his injuries at the hospital Monday, a spokesperson for the New York City Police Department’s Deputy Commissioner, Public Information said.

Officers initially responded to a 911 call reporting an assault at 132 West 43rd St., in front of Burger & Lobster Bryant Park and next door to the Stephen Sondheim Theatre around 11:30 p.m. Monday, police said.

Baez was found with stab wounds to the torso and back, as well as a slash wound to his face, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police have made no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.
