Rachel Carson, whose research and powerful writing launched the modern environmental movement, now has her name attached to the short street in the beachfront town of Wells where this home is located — and to the nearby sprawling coastal national wildlife refuge.

But the focus here is on this 22-year-old home that creates its own environment with independent living spaces on three floors, suited to large family vacations. The home is being sold furnished (including appliances and televisions).

The current owners did not use their house as a rental property, but the next owner can if they choose, said Jason Vennard of Anchor Real Estate, the listing firm. Wells currently has no restrictions on renting, but Vennard said this house can only be rented as a single-family, not as three separate units.

The buyer also has the right of first refusal to an adjoining 3,750-square-foot lot that creates a green space to accompany the beach-focused 3,920-square-foot lot surrounding the home.

A single-car attached garage has a door into the home, but the main entry is under a covered porch inset into the right side of the home, allowing one to keep gazing at the Atlantic Ocean just a few steps away.

The door connects directly to a 402-square-foot space combining a dining area, living area, and kitchenette. The space, with glazed porcelain tile flooring, occupies the right-side of the home, making it a sun-splashed room thanks to seven double-hung beachside windows on three walls. More sunlight arrives from the French door slider that connects to the bottom of an exterior stairwell. The porch is large enough for a table and chairs.

The kitchenette has a blue pearl granite countertop, two layers of cabinets with a light finish, a large number of electrical outlets installed onto the backsplash, and a large refrigerator and a built-in dishwasher, both stainless steel.

This level has two bedrooms (203 and 162 square feet), and both are currently outfitted with two twin beds. Flooring in both is oak. The larger of the two is in the front of the house and has four double-hung windows, a closet with mirrored doors, and a ceiling fan. The smaller bedroom has two sets of double-hung windows and a ceiling fan.

The full bathroom is 76 square feet and has the same blue pearl granite for the single vanity countertop, porcelain tile flooring, and a shower behind a curtain. There is one window and a mirrored medicine cabinet above the vanity.

The interior stairwell, located off the living area, leads to the second floor. Since this level is the only one with a full kitchen, it can be considered the heart of the home, and likely the main gathering spot. Also on this floor are four bedrooms (one with an ensuite bathroom), another full bathroom, and a slider to a 64-square-foot sunroom.

This level also has an open floor plan for the kitchen, dining, and living areas with eight double-hung windows aligned on the beach side of the house, pulling in natural light. The 155-square-foot kitchen has an electric range, an inset microwave, two layers of cabinets, and blue pearl granite countertops with an overhang. Flooring is porcelain tile, and appliances are stainless steel. The 147-square-foot living area is an alcove at the front of the home, with the dining area occupying the space between it and the kitchen.

The 50-square-foot full bathroom off the dining area has a single vanity with a blue pearl granite countertop, porcelain tile flooring, and a bath/shower combination behind a curtain.

The suite has a 196-square-foot bedroom with oak flooring, a central ceiling fan, and four double-hung windows. The 49-square-foot ensuite bathroom also has a single white vanity with a blue pearl granite top, tile flooring, and a bath/shower combination. The three other bedrooms range in size from 73 square feet to 163 square feet, and all have oak flooring and ceiling fans.

The four-season sunroom has a water view and is connected to a large porch with yet more water views, plus enough space for a picnic table and several chairs.

The main stairwell leads to the third and final level. It shares the same open-space design for the living/dining and kitchenette areas, but also plays host to the primary suite, another bedroom, an office, and a full secondary bath (74 square feet with a single vanity and shower only).

The 194-square-foot primary bedroom has a ceiling fan, oak flooring, four double-hung windows, and a walk-in closet. The 61-square-foot ensuite shares the same granite vanity top and tile flooring as the other bathrooms along with a curtained shower.

There are three heating and cooling zones. The basement with a poured concrete floor and foundation is unfinished.
