The announcement marks a significant step in Tszyu’s resurgence, with the 31-year-old securing back-to-back wins in his recent outings. His latest victory came on Easter Sunday, where he claimed a unanimous points decision over previously unbeaten Denis Nurja.
Speaking after the announcement, Tszyu made clear his intent to test himself against another top-tier opponent.
“I’ve never stopped believing in myself and I’m delighted to have the chance to take on another world class fighter like Errol Spence,”
“Spence has fought the best of the best but like I’ve said throughout my career, these are the fights that I want.
“I’m locked into my preparation and on July 26 the world is going to see just what I am capable of.”
From Las Vegas, Errol Spence welcomed the bout, expressing confidence ahead of the clash.
“Tszyu is an accomplished fighter, but he has never been in the ring with someone like me.”
“It doesn’t matter if we fight in the US, Australia or Mars…I’ll take care of my business. I’m coming into his hometown. Coming into his territory. And I’m coming to take over.”
No Limit Boxing chief executive George Rose said the fight had been in the works for some time and described it as a major event for Australian boxing.
“We’ve been working on this fight for a long-time and I’m delighted we can finally get it on,”
“Tim has proven he is back to his best, and Spence is a fighter that needs no introduction at all.
“I’m confident there will be more Aussie fighters on the card so make sure you watch this space. No Limit Boxing is the home of Australian boxing, and we will continue to give the best young fighters in the country a platform to show their talents to the rest of the world.”
Further details, including the venue and start time, are yet to be announced.
