Adelaide is heading into a cool, mostly grey stretch of weather this week, with showers building midweek before conditions gradually settle into a calmer weekend.
Today stays fairly mild but subdued, with partly cloudy skies and just a slight chance of a morning shower before things clear during the afternoon. Adelaide is only expected to reach 19 degrees, with light winds turning southwesterly for a time before easing again later in the day. Wednesday looks to be the wettest day of the next seven, with cloudy skies, a very high chance of showers and a top of 19 degrees. Winds will shift through the day, starting from the northwest to northeasterly before turning westerly, then swinging southwesterly later with a noticeably gustier feel by the afternoon and evening.
Thursday keeps the cloud around and drags temperatures down further, with Adelaide forecast to reach just 16 degrees. There is only a slight chance of a shower, but fresh southerly winds will make it feel cooler than the thermometer suggests. Friday remains unsettled, with another round of possible showers, especially through the morning and afternoon, and a top of 18 degrees. Southwesterly winds will stay brisk before easing and turning more southerly later in the day.
The weekend doesn’t bring a dramatic clear-out, but it does look a little easier to manage. Saturday is expected to stay cloudy with a medium chance of showers and a top of 19 degrees, while light winds become southerly during the day. By Sunday, Adelaide should start to see signs of improvement, with partly cloudy skies, just a slight chance of a shower and another maximum of 19 degrees. Monday continues that steadier pattern, with partly cloudy conditions, light winds becoming southeasterly in the morning, and a top of 19 degrees. In short, it’s a week for layers, cooler commutes and a watchful eye on passing showers rather than any major burst of autumn sunshine.
Across South Australia, the broader picture is being shaped by a ridge of high pressure pushing in from the west, briefly interrupted by a cold front crossing the southeast on Wednesday afternoon. That pattern will keep much of the state cooler than average through to Friday. Isolated showers are expected across the agricultural area and West Coast district today, clearing by evening, before showers redevelop on Wednesday and become more frequent across the southern agricultural area later in the day. The southeast has the most active conditions, with possible small hail on Wednesday evening and again on Thursday morning in the far southeast.
Rainfall totals by the end of Friday are expected to stay low in the far north, while central districts could see 2 to 10 mm and the southeast and Mount Lofty Ranges are forecast to pick up 5 to 15 mm, with localised falls up to 20 mm along the far southeastern coastal fringes. Inland river conditions also remain a concern in the state’s far north and northeast, with elevated river and creek levels continuing around Poothapootha Waterhole and Innamincka as upstream floodwaters move in from Queensland.
Happy Tuesday!
