The Central Bank of the UAE, in partnership with ICP and Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, has launched a new service allowing tourists to open a bank account digitally upon arrival in the country, with no paperwork required.
What the Tourist Identity Service Does
The initiative is called Tourist Identity. It allows non-resident visitors to set up a bank account within minutes using a secure digital identity issued at the point of entry into the UAE.
When tourists arrive, they receive a digital identity powered by biometric and facial recognition technology developed by ICP. By linking this system to the ADCB mobile banking app, visitors can open a bank account instantly, access a digital debit card for immediate use, and start banking from day one without any traditional documentation.
Why It Matters for Visitors
The service removes one of the most common friction points for tourists who need access to local banking during their stay. Visitors can pay digitally instead of relying on cash, manage travel expenses more easily, and access secure banking services immediately.
The service is particularly useful for longer stays, business travel, and frequent visitors to the UAE.
Supporting the UAE’s Cashless Vision
The initiative connects tourists directly to the UAE’s broader payment infrastructure, including Jaywan, the national card scheme, and Aani, the instant payment platform.
Saif Humaid Al Dhaheri of the CBUAE said the initiative creates an integrated and secure banking experience for visitors from the moment they arrive. ICP stated the Tourist Identity system is built on advanced biometric verification and artificial intelligence, enabling visitors to access services across sectors without presenting physical documents.
ADCB Group CEO Ala’a Eraiqat described the rollout as supporting future-ready financial models and enhancing the UAE’s appeal as a global destination.
A Digital First for UAE Tourism
The launch marks a meaningful step toward making financial services more accessible to visitors while reinforcing the UAE’s position as a digital-first economy and one of the most forward-thinking travel destinations in the world.
