A college student was allegedly gang-raped by two unidentified men in a forested area of Dr Ambedkar Nagar (Mhow) in Madhya Pradesh, while her friend was beaten and driven away, police said.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening in the Berchha forest area after the woman and her friend had visited the Lagnashah Bhairav Baba temple.
According to police, the two had moved to a secluded spot near the Jai Jawan Jai Kisan pond when the assailants, who were allegedly lying in wait, attacked them from behind.
The accused beat the woman’s friend with sticks, injuring him, and chased him away before forcibly taking the woman deeper into the forest. They then took turns to rape her.
After the assault, the culprits fled the scene. They’re still at large.
The injured man later came out of the forest and alerted police by calling the emergency helpline. Police teams arrived at the spot and took both the survivor and her friend to the police station for questioning.
Police teams inspected the scene of the crime, collected evidence and conducted inquiries in nearby locations.
A case of gang rape and abduction has been registered against unknown persons, and an investigation is underway, officials said.
