Blondie’s mischievous sibling, Janu, sits in an expansive split-level space in Juhu, a short distance away from the beachfront. Designed as an all-day cafe with Mediterranean blues and citrus tones, Bastian Hospitality’s latest venture dips into old-school nostalgia with a smattering of all-vegetarian, Indian-style bites. With retro Bollywood music playing in the background, you’re encouraged to tuck into a selection of chaat, like raj kachori and palak patta chaat, fluffy kulchas and signatures like pav bhaji, black dal with khameeri and chole bhature. You also have Blondie’s stuffed dosas, a specialty matcha and coffee program with drinks such as rasmalai matcha and rasgulla tiramisu latte and desserts with an Indian spin. Swing by for cheekily named cocktails like salted mosambi paloma and don’t jinx it, featuring an edible evil-eye topping. A retail section in collaboration with Jaipur-based PDKF takes up one corner of the store, while the upper level offers a more relaxed ambience with breezy views.
Address: Next to Bloom Hotel, Juhu Tara Road. Walk-ins mainly.
Angry Toast
This recently opened grab-and-go cafe in Bandra focuses on serving quality coffee with sandwiches that aren’t super messy or too big to eat. Housed within the compact space is a microroastery, a coffee and matcha bar, and an open kitchen where three-inch milk bread sandwiches are whipped up with precision. The bright orange-red hues are intentional, along with the mascot Ziko, whose caricatures you’ll find scattered across the store and food packaging. The menu lists sourdough and brioche sandwiches (including an eggless brioche version) in flavours like four cheese and vindaloo, avocado chipotle, chicken katsu and smashed lamb. The coffee programme has been curated by Suhas Dwarakanath, a World Barista Championship semi-finalist. You also have specialty drinks like taro latte, Vietnamese eggnog coffee, the internet-famous Mont Blanc, as well as cold brews.
