Not quite a cocktail bar, The Powder Room sits somewhere as a dinner party space with just 45 seats and a design theme that leans towards Africa-inspired interiors. You’re greeted with Afro-jazz music playing in the background, with interiors featuring animal print suede upholstery, artwork lining the walls, a statement flowing chandelier, marble tables and custom floor lamps lending an intimate, moody vibe to the space. At the helm is Avik Chatterjee of Specialty Restaurants Limited, whose travels across Africa inspired the concept of The Powder Room. The cuisine melds Mediterranean and Asian flavours, with tapas and small plates like Sichuan burrata, truffle potato mille-feuille with smoked wasabi crème fraîche, duck shawarma gyoza, a section dedicated to pastas and planchas, along with desserts like chocolate fondant with miso caramel ice cream. The bar programme has been crafted by the team behind Lair in Delhi, and features tipples with innovative ingredients like clarified cherry tomato, toasted shiitake whisky and flower pepper mezcal.

Tucked away in Bandra’s bylanes is this 25-seater all-day diner, dishing out thick sandwiches, burgers and sips. Envisioned as a cosy neighbourhood spot where you can linger over matcha and coffee, people-watch, or simply drop in for a hearty bite, Even Steven features warm green hues, assorted knick-knacks, and artwork framing the walls. Chef Christopher Fernandes helms the culinary program, balancing meat-heavy fare, like an indulgent fried chicken doughnut or pain suisse smash (their breads are baked fresh in-house), with vegetarian-forward plates such as rigatoni with a roasted red pepper emulsion and creamy cheese curds, or caprese sando with fresh stracciatella. End on a sweet note with desserts like banana foster toast.
