There’s a particular pleasure in watching a new name elbow its way into the Top 50. And this year’s list of the World’s 50 Best Hotels officially has some newcomers – and they’re a pretty good illustration of how wildly different “the world’s best hotel” can look.
Some of the new entrants are old-school grande dames, some are desert hideaways, another is a 12-room country house outside Modena and there’s even a brand-new Japanese address. But not all are new new. One hotel that’s joined the list has been around since 1928.
While a few of these properties aren’t entirely new to the best hotel longlist (several spent 2025 in the 51–100 ranking, essentially waiting in the lobby with their coat on), we’re thrilled to see them ascend – and rightly so. Anyway, here are the ten hotels that have newly made their debut in the 2026 Top 50 – and, more importantly, why you might actually want to know about them.
Address: San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel, Via S. Domenico, 5, Taormina, Sicily
Perched above Taormina, this Four Seasons property has a pretty impressive CV. The former Dominican convent has been a grand Sicilian escape for decades, with the Ionian Sea doing much of the heavy lifting outside the windows. Its recent starring role in The White Lotus certainly didn’t hurt its chances at entering the Top 50 either.

Bangkok’s newest Aman sprawls across seven acres of Nai Lert Park, and is Thailand’s first urban Aman hotel. Some if its cooler features include an infinity pool built around a 100-year-old tree, a two-story wellness and spa centre, and ydrotherapy and thermal bathing facilities. It previously peaked at #51 in the 2025 ’51–100 list’, so technically this more of a promotion than a complete debut.

The Peninsula has been welcoming guests for more than 100 years – since 1928. So, the term “new entry” is doing some heavy lifting. Hong Kong’s grande dame finally joins the Top 50 after landing at #54 last year. There are Rolls-Royces, harbour views, an enormous spa and the sort of afternoon tea where nobody seems to be in a hurry.
Address: Amangiri, 1 Kayenta Road, Canyon Point, Utah
Amangiri is the hotel equivalent of a desert mirage. Carved into the rocky Utah landscape, it has spent years perfecting the art of making brutalist architecture look remarkably at home among red rock and endless sky. It was #98 last year. Now it’s #45. Perhaps one of the list’s most jaw-droppingly picturesque properties.
Address: Hôtel Plaza Athénée, 25 Avenue Montaigne, Paris
Paris has plenty of hotels with pedigrees, but Plaza Athénée’s is particularly glossy. The red awnings on Avenue Montaigne have been an emblem of Parisian luxury since 1913, and the hotel’s relationship with fashion runs deep – Christian Dior even named a collection after it.

Portrait Milano occupies a former 16th-century seminary, which sounds promising before you’ve even got to the marble, cardinal-red interiors and vast piazza outside. The hotel was #99 in 2025, and this year it’s shot up to #39.
Address: Patina Osaka, 3-91 Banbacho, Chuo Ward, Osaka
One of the genuinely fresh names on the list, Patina Osaka opened beside Osaka Castle Park in May 2025 with a distinctly contemporary take on Japanese hospitality. There’s plenty of design and craft imbued by the Capella Hotel Group (who have a few hotels in the top 100), and is celebrated for its sustainable design, high-fidelity sound culture, and extensive wellness facilities.

The Peninsula Istanbul won The World’s 50 Best Hotels’ One To Watch award back in 2024, and its four historic buildings on the Bosphorus have since made a convincing case for the full ranking.
Address: San Ysidro Ranch, 900 San Ysidro Lane, Montecito, Santa Barbara
San Ysidro Ranch’s 38 cottages sit in the Montecito foothills, and its guest book has included the Kennedys, Winston Churchill and Hollywood royalty. It also appeared at #34 in 2024, making this technically a return to the Top 50 rather than a first-ever appearance – but The World’s 50 Best calls it a new entry for 2026.

Twelve rooms somewhere outside Modena, and suddenly you’re #18 in the world (formerly at #82, so a steep climb). Casa Maria Luigia was created by Massimo Bottura and Lara Gilmore as a kind of rural extension of their food universe, complete with art, gardens, a pool and Francescana at Maria Luigia.
