SARAH ABO hints at more to come after TODAY SHOW exit

With Nine preparing to reveal its 2027 plans at its Upfronts today, Abo’s promise that she is “excited” about what comes next will have plenty wondering what the presenter has planned.

Abo shared the news with her followers in an Instagram video on Wednesday, filmed during a brief break from maternity leave with her eight-week-old son Sonny, alongside a statement confirming she will not be returning to Today or the Nine Network.

“There is more to come, and I’m excited about that, and I look forward to that in due course.”

The presenter also used the message to thank the wider Today team, describing the crew, producers and fellow hosts as a “second family”, while thanking viewers for welcoming her into their homes each morning.

Her departure comes after a particularly turbulent period for Today, with Karl Stefanovic leaving Nine earlier this year after fronting the breakfast program alongside Abo for more than three years.

Tim Davies then confirmed his own departure just weeks ago, bringing another familiar face from the Today team to the end of his seven-year run with the program and 12 years with Nine..

The latest changes are part of a much wider reset for Today, with Nine preparing to move presenters across its breakfast and news operations as it reshapes the team for 2027.

As TV Blackbox revealed yesterday, Tom Steinfort and Sylvia Jeffreys are set to take over as the new Today hosting duo, with Steinfort moving from 9News Melbourne and Jeffreys shifting across from Today Extra.

TV Blackbox understands Michael Atkinson will move to the weekday program to present sport, with Danika Mason set to take maternity leave soon, while Mia Glover is understood to be the frontrunner for the weekday roving weather presenter role.

The movement of talent also highlights the revolving nature of Today, with Nine repeatedly developing familiar faces through the program before they eventually move on.

Alex Cullen, who departed Nine last year in very different circumstances, is another recent example of a presenter who became closely associated with Today before later resurfacing at Seven.

Abo’s announcement was met with an outpouring of support from colleagues, with Jeffreys praising her “class, intellect and a genuine care for the people around you”, while Davies hinted at “exciting times ahead”.

And then there is the question of where Abo goes next. There is no confirmed new role for the presenter, but her comments suggest another chapter is coming, with Seven an obvious network to watch given the upheaval currently taking place at Today.
